After winning the first race at Barcelona, Peugeot have now claimed victory at the second round in Monza, Italy. The race, held on April 27, ended with a thrilling sprint finish for Pedro Lamy in the N° 8 car. And he saw off competition from the N° 2 Audi R10 to claim overall victory for the 908 HDi FAP. And the results speak for themselves: LMS defending champions Peugeot 2 – Audi 0. Michel Barge, Peugeot Sport Director, says: ‘It was a superb race which ended in an extraordinary finale. It was a very close-run thing not only between Peugeot and Audi, but also in the different categories, and that can only be good for the Le Mans Series.’ ‘This race marked the anniversary of our first win and we celebrated that with an all-Peugeot front row and the fastest race lap and the race win. It’s a great result for Peugeot Sport and an excellent way to prepare for the Le Mans 24 Hours.’ The N°7 Peugeot 908 HDi FAP, driven by Nicolas Minassian and Marc Gené, started from pole position. But it was delayed by transmission problems, dropping the car to 34th. However, after repairs, they fought back to claim fifth place in front of the N°1 Audi… and put Peugeot on top of the Manufacturers’ standings. The next LMS race will take place in Spa, Belgium on May 9-11. Peugeot's flagship, the 504 made its public debut on 12 September 1968 at the Paris Salon. The press launch which had been scheduled for June 1968 was at the last minute deferred by three months, and production got off to a similarly delayed start because of the political and industrial disruption which exploded across the country in May 1968.[2]
The 504 was a sunroof-equipped four-door saloon, introduced with a carburated 1796 cc four-cylinder petrol engine 97 bhp (72 kW; 98 PS)with optional fuel injection and 82 bhp (61 kW; 83 PS) . A column-mounted four-speed manual transmission was standard, a 3-speed ZF 3HP22 automatic available as an upgrade.
[edit] 1969
The 504 was European Car of the Year in 1969, praised for its styling, quality, chassis, ride, visibility, strong engine and refinement.
The 504 Injection two-door coupé and two-door cabriolet were introduced at the Salon de Geneva in March 1969.[3] The engine produced the same 97 bhp (72 kW; 98 PS) of output as in the fuel injected saloon, but the final drive ratio was slightly revised to give a slightly higher road speed of 20.6 mph (33.2 km/h) at 1,000 rpm.[3]
Available models: 504 4-door saloon

504 Injection 2-door coupé
504 Injection 2-door cabriolet [edit] 1970
The 504 received a new four-cylinder 1971 cc engine, rated at 93 bhp (carburated) and 104 bhp (fuel injected), and a four-cylinder 2112 cc diesel rated at 65 bhp (48 kW; 66 PS). The 1796 cc engine remained available.
In September 1970 an estate was added, featuring a higher rear roof and solid rear axle with four coil springs. It was joined by the 7-seat "Familiale", which had all its occupants facing forward in three rows of seats.

In April 1973, Peugeot presented the 504 L due to the oil crisis. It featured a live rear axle, 1796 cc engine rated at 96 bhp (81 bhp for Automatic).
At the Paris Motor Show of October 1976 the option of an enlarged diesel engine was introduced. The stroke of 83 mm (3.3 in) remained the same as that of the existing 1948 cc diesel motor, but for the larger engine the bore was increased to 94 mm (3.7 in), giving an overall 2112 cc along with an increase in claimed power output from 59 bhp (44 kW; 60 PS) to 70 bhp.[4] This diesel engine would also find its way into the Ford Granada since Ford did not at the time produce a sufficient volume of diesel sedans in this class to justify the development of their own diesel engine.
Peugeot 504 production in Europe was pruned back in 1979 with the launch of the Peugeot 505, and the last European example rolled off the production line in 1983, although the pick up version continued in production, and was available in Europe until 1993. Chinese production of the 504 pick up (more information below) only ceased in 2009. The 505 shared most of the Peugeot 504 mechanical parts, similarly to the Peugeot 604 and Talbot Tagora.[citation needed]
More than three million 504s were produced in Europe, ending in 1983. Manufacturing continued in Nigeria and Kenya until 2006, utilising the Peugeot knock down kits. Kenya production was 27,000 units. Egypt had its own production facilities.
The car was assembled in various countries, under license of Peugeot. In Australia it was assembled by Peugeot's arch-rival Renault, and sold through Renault Australia's dealer network.
The Peugeot 504 is also one of the most common vehicles employed as a bush taxi in Africa. In China, the 504 was produced until 2009 in pick up form, with a four-door crew cab combination fitted, on an extended estate platform.
The Peugeot 504 was also produced in Argentina until 2002, and later models were slightly restyled at the front and rear, with the lamps and bumpers changing design. The cars were also given a new interior.
The French company Dangel also produced Peugeot approved four-wheel drive estate (station wagon) and pickup models.
Its engines and suspension were used in later models of the Paykan, the Iranian version of the Hillman Hunter.
[edit] Mechanical configuration
The car was rear wheel drive, with longitudinally-mounted engines, canted over to bring a lower bonnet line to the styling. Manual or Automatic transmission was offered. The suspension system consisted of MacPherson struts and coil springs at the front and with either semi-trailing arms with coil springs or coil springs and live axle at the rear. The station wagon and pickup versions were available with a live axle. The car used disc brakes at the front, and either disc brakes or drum brakes at the rear, depending on the model. The steering was a rack and pinion system. Huge suspension travel, and great strength, meant that the 504 was suited to rough road conditions, and the car proved extremely reliable in conditions found in Africa, Asia, Australia and the like.
The Peugeot 504 was widely available with diesel engines and an automatic transmission option, which was a rare combination at the time. Engines were of the Indenor design and included 1948 cc, 2112 cc, and a 2304 cc. The Indenor engine was also used in the Peugeot 403, Peugeot 404, Peugeot 505, Peugeot 604, Peugeot J7, Peugeot J9, Peugeot P4, Ford Sierra, Ford Granada, Talbot Tagora, Mahindra Jeep, Leyland Daf 400, Cournil 4x4, UMM 4x4, UMM 4x4 Cournil, Belgian-assembled Scaldia-Volga M21,M22, M24D (GAZ-21, GAZ-24) and for marine application.
There were two petrol engines available in Europe, a 1796 cc and 1971 cc. The latter was also available with Kugelfischer mechanical fuel injection, first available on the earlier Peugeot 404. Gearboxes were either the BA7, four-speed manual or ZF three-speed automatic. Later pickup trucks in Europe gained a fifth gear. Export market vehicles had different variations available.
Starting 1980, a sporty version of the 504 was available, it had a 1997 cc engine rated at 128 hp (95 kW) and mated to the regular gearboxes. It had a live axle and adjustable suspension. Very few were produced. 504 saloon Peugeot 504 Break 504 cabriolet 504 coupé 5Peugeot 504 Cabriolet Peugeot 504 rallyes africains Peugeot 504 truck [edit] Film appearances Please help improve this article by expanding it. Further information might be found on the talk page. (December 2009) Two black Peugeot 504 saloons were driven by henchmen of James Bond villain Aristotle Kristatos in the 1981 film For Your Eyes Only, as they pursued Bond (played by Roger Moore) along roads in the Greek highlands (Greece standing in as Spain in this particular scene), only for both of their cars to be written off as Bond made a remarkable escape in a yellow Citroen 2CV. The first 504 was totalled after rolling down an embankment and overturning onto its roof, while the second became trapped in a tree after overshooting another embankment. [1]
A white Peugoet 504 saloon appeared in a Bollywood film Amar Akbar Anthony, featuring Vinod Khanna driving it.
In the film The Wilby Conspiracy, starring Michael Caine and Sidney Poitier, both the Peugeot 404 and the automatic 504 cars feature extensively, as the two main characters drive across South Africa to escape from the Secret Police.
The Australian film Families, a comedy drama made in 1985, features a Peugeot 504 seen in several scenes being driven through the bush, with the characters suffering a puncture en-route as well as a Peugeot 505 family estate car.
A midnight blue 504 makes several appearances in Noah Baumbach's 2005 movie The Squid and the Whale.
A white 504 is the car of professor Rainer Wenger, the starring of The Wave, a 2008 German movie.
[edit] Politics
In November 2010. Iranian state television announced Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was to auction off his 1977 Peugeot 504 to raise money for charity. The money earned from the sale at international auction is to be donated to the Mehr housing project, a network of cooperatives that provides affordable housing for low-income families.[5]

6 External links [edit] Phase I Phase I 106 The Peugeot 106 was introduced in the autumn of 1991, as the French marque's entry level car slotting in beneath the 205 - although it is now largely considered the 'true' replacement to the 205. It was a substantial development of the Citroën AX, intended to make it both heavier and safer. It was aimed directly at cars like the Renault Clio, which had gone into production a year earlier, and as a more modern alternative to the slightly larger 205 which had been a massive success for Peugeot and was still proving popular almost a decade after its launch. Winning praise for its modern styling, comfortable ride, excellent handling and cheap running costs, the 106 quickly became popular. Going against the appeal were limited interior space and budget interior plastics.
Sales in the UK were strong, with the 106 being the 11th most popular new car in the country in 1993.
Its power came from 1.0-litre (45 bhp) and 1.1-litre (60 bhp) carburettor petrol engines and a 1.4-litre fuel injection unit, as well as a 1.4 L (50 bhp) Diesel engine which was later dropped in mid/late 1994 and replaced with a more refined and more economical 1.5-litre unit (58 bhp). A 1.6-litre fuel injected engine was introduced on the 1995 XSi model, with a top speed of 120 mph (193 km/h). In 1993, the 1.0 and 1.1 carburettor engines were replaced with single point injection engines in order to satisfy the regulation that mass produced cars must make use of a catalytic converter to help reduce emission levels. The 1.0i produced 50 bhp, but was soon phased out of the 106 range.
In the UK trim levels were basic XN, mid-range XR, top-spec XT, and the sporty XSi model mentioned above. In addition, from 1994 onwards there was a "Rallye" model offered. This was different from the XSi model with the TU2 series 1.3 litre petrol injection engine (100 bhp). This was designed for clubman rallying and the sporting driver, and had little in the way of creature comforts, such as electric windows, power assisted steering etc. On the phase 1 model, a sunroof and anti lock brakes were the only options available from the factory, although many came with foglights or spoilers from the XSi models. In Portugal there was a special edition of 50 units of the Rallye, called R2, which feature extensive use of sporting material from the Peugeot-Talbot racing division which went even further with the extreme nature of the Rallye, with changes to the suspension, brakes, new 14 inch speedline rims, racing seatbelts, and engine management and exhaust upgrades, to produce 106PS.
[edit] Phase II Phase II 106 In early 1996 the Peugeot 106 also formed the basis for the near identical looks and size Citroën Saxo, and at this time the 106 received a facelift which saw all engines get fuel injection and equipment levels raised. The XSi was dropped in favour of the new GTi model with a 1.6 16v engine.
From 1997-1998 the Phase 2 Rallye was offered, and these combined the light, nimble chassis of the Phase 1 Rallye, with a 1.6 litre petrol injection engine (TU5J2, 103 bhp) and updated looks and safety features of the later models (1996–1999). Optional Extras on the Phase 2 Rallye were; Power assisted steering, airbag and a sunroof. From 1996-1999 trim levels were XN, XL, XR, XT, XS and GTi. In France a five-door version of both XS and GTi versions were offered.[citation needed]
At the end of 1998, the Peugeot 106 range was reduced to the 1.1 L petrol (Independence, XN, XL, XT Look or Zest 1/2/3), 1.4 petrol (XR, Roland Garros or Quiksilver), 1.6 8v petrol (XS or Rallye) and 1.5 L diesel (XND) models as well as the 1.6 16v petrol (GTi). This was due to the launch of the larger 206, which stole many sales from the 106. Peugeot initially intended to phase the 106 out and market the 206 as its replacement, but later decided to replace the 106 with another all-new model.
After 13 years in production, the last Peugeot 106 rolled off the production line in early 2004[citation needed]. Its replacement, the 107, has been available since early 2005. By the time production ceased, the Peugeot 106 was one of the longest running production cars still made in Europe but it was still proving fairly popular, especially in its home market of France.
Although it was being left behind by more modern cars with more in the way of quality, refinement, safety and comfort, it was still considered one of the best drivers' cars on the European mini-car market.

Although the interior seemed reasonably plush at the time, the low-end models did have areas of visible metal work on the doors and a generally more sparse interior. 1.0L cars were fitted with a 4 speed manual gearbox, with all other models having a 5 speed manual with an automatic gearbox as an option.
Many of the cars sold in the UK were special editions, carrying such names as Graduate, Inca and Aztec. These were often based on the XN trim vehicles, but with the addition of bodywork graphics carrying the name of the special edition, and a few other basic options such as a tilt and slide sunroof.
Most models had only basic features, with even a radio being only an option on some variants such as the 106 'Kid' special edition (which had denim effect fabrics).
No Phase I cars had power steering in right-hand drive markets such as the UK as there was no space for the power-steering pump in these cars. This was rectified in Phase II cars, where power steering was available as standard in higher specification models, or as an option on lower specification models.
Higher up the range, electric windows, manual pop-up sunroof (electric sunroof was a very rare extra), radio-cassette or radio-CD and rear wash-wipe were available. A drivers airbag was introduced in the Phase II model as an optional extra, although it came standard on late GTis.
The GTi had black leather upholstery (although early models had cloth interiors), 14" Raptor alloy wheels, a body kit and disc brakes all round. The leather was much of the reason for the increase in price over the otherwise near-identical Citroen Saxo VTS. At the time, it was also widely regarded as one of the fastest road cars in terms of "real life" point-to-point speed, thanks to very predictable handling and fast acceleration in 2nd and 3rd gears in particular.
As with the Saxo, air-conditioning was never an option on right-hand-drive 106's because the blower motor was mounted in the bulk-head on the drivers side. As a result, there was insufficient space available to accommodate the evaporator, except by first ducting the air flow to the passenger side and then at the expense of the glove-box. Although an after-market kit was available that did exactly this, the resultant pressure loss made the system noisy and ineffective. The blower motor could also not be easily relocated, since the windscreen wiper motor was mounted in the passenger side space.
